Mrs. Shirley Ann Wyckoff Mitchell, 72, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2017 while at UAB Pallitative Care Unit in Birmingham, AL.
Mrs. Shirley Mitchell was born to the late Mexico Wyckoff and the late Aldora Knight Veasley of Kellyton, AL on July 30, 1945 in Perryville, AL.
She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Bethel Baptist Church in Daviston, AL. After marriage, she united with Philippi Missionary Baptist Church, Kellyton, AL and later moved to Elam #2 Baptist Church. She was united in Holy Matrimony with the late Mr. Jimmy Mitchell for 51 years.
She graduated from Zana High School in Daviston, AL. She was employed at Russell Mills, Inc. and later became a supervisor at MTJ Manufacturing Company.
In 1999, she became Proprietor of Mitchell’s Childcare Center in Kellyton, AL and remained such until her passing. She was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and community mother. She had a love for all children, the Lord and reading. Her legacy was to assure that every child that came through her daycare center was able to read by the age of 3 years old. Each of those children throughout 12 years of school remained on the A and B honor roll. Her next great love was growing her four feet flowers.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving children, Regina Ray of Kellyton, AL; James Emmanuel Mitchell (Placida) of Birmingham, AL; Alma Rebecca Mitchell of Kellyton, AL; Reba Harmon (Sharron) of Goodwater, AL; Jacques Demetrius Mitchell (Valerie) of Kellyton, AL; Frank Dawson of Goodwater, AL; and Miranda Mitchell of Dallas, TX. Honorary son, Darryl Price of Alexander City, AL. One sister; Geneva McCloud of Jackson’s Gap AL. One sister-in-law, Mrs. Lillian (Rev. E. L.) Leonard.
She will be missed by her beloved fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Special grandson, Justin Byant. Two special friends; Mrs. Doris Smoot and Mrs. Wanda McKinney, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
