Rev. Gary Von Jennings

Born December 1, 1941 to Edmond and Maebelle Jennings in Alexander City, Alabama. He was the sixth of ten children born to this union.

From the beginning of his life, Gary was shaped and enriched by experiences provided by his Christian parents. He confessed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Alabama. 

He was educated in the Alabama school system and graduated from Laurel High School. After high school, he moved to New York City, and gained employment with Teamsters Trucking Company in 1969. He later transferred his employment to Detroit, Michigan.

Upon his arrival to Detroit, Michigan, Gary's spiritual journey led him to join Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he was called to the ministry September 1998. In November 2006, Gary was ordained as a Minister.

Gary later began working in security for many different companies before he became employed at Ford Field. He worked in security at Ford Field from the first day the stadium opened until his retirement. He loved his job and rubbing elbows with the Manager of the Detroit Lions and greeting fans. With his awesome smile and great personality, he was featured in the Detroit News when he retired. 

Gary was a very memorable person always spreading joy and smiles and laughter along the way. He will be missed by many; always giving people a chance. He would barbeque and feed the neighborhood as the man with a kind word, a warm meal and a word from God.

Gary Von Jennings departed his life on March 30, 2021 in Detroit, Michigan. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jonathan Maurice; parents: Edmond and Maebelle Jennings; brothers: Charlie Frank, twins Leroy and Lee, and Ulysses, and sister Sarah.

He leaves to Cherish his precious memory: sons: Greg, Kelvin (Michelle) and Gary II; daughter, Karen; grandchildren: Demarco, DeAndrew, Gabriel, Daniel, Kelvin Jr., Shelby, Alaija, Ashley, Gharyanna, and Gary III; great grandchildren: DeAndrew Jr. Zioe, Nakeem, and Mason; Brothers: Fred(Nettie) of Montgomery, AL and Eddie Jr. of Opelika, AL; sister, Mary Alice of Fayetteville, NC and (Liz) Elizabeth of Alexander City, AL; friends for life: Derrick, LeRoy, David, Hershel, Bonnie, Willie, Joe, and Eddie; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
