The second child of three children born to the late Lurlene Barnes and the late Walter Bozeman. Jean Doris Bozeman was born on September 10, 1935 in Dadeville, Alabama.
Jean was a member of Haven Chapel United Methodist Church in Dadeville, AL where she devoted her time teaching Sunday School. She attended church regularly until her health started to failed.
Jean was a graduate of Councill High School. After graduating, she attended Alabama State University and graduated with a B.S. in English. She also graduated with a Master’s Degree from the University of Montevello.
She taught school in Tallapoosa County until her retirement. Jean was the first black Councilwoman in Dadeville, Alabama. She was a member of the Alabama Democratic Conferences, East Alabama Mental Health Board, and NAACP. Jean loved spending time with her family, especially her sister, Jacqueline at Alabama State football games “Go Hornets”. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice “Peggy” Hill.
Jean leaves to cherish her memories, one sister, Jacqueline Seagraves of Dadeville, Alabama. Two nieces: LaTammy (Willmer) Cornner of Birmingham, Alabama and Shawandra (Anthony) Crawford of New York City, NY. One nephew, Donald (Paula) Seagraves of Glendale, Maryland. Two god daughters: Zelenka Boyd of Dadeville, Alabama and Necole (Ronnie) Rowe of Dadeville, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
