Mrs. Maxie Bell Coley Johnson, 75, was born on June 30, 1950 in Alexander City, AL and passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL . She was born to the late Mr. Rufus Coley Sr. and Mrs. Annie Brooks Coley
At an early age, Mrs. Johnson accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was united with Cross Key Baptist Church. In her adult life, she united with Great Bethel Baptist Church and worked actively in all needed areas of the Church.
Mrs. Johnson received her early training in the public school system of Alexander City, AL. She received her diploma from Laurel High School, a Bachelor of Science degree from Tuskegee Institute in Elementary Education and Special Education and earned a Master of Education in Special Education and an EDS from Alabama State University. Mrs. Johnson was a retired educator who taught in the Lee County School System for thirty-five years at Beauregard High School. She served as liaison for the Alabama State Department of Education and worked on various improvements to help students and teachers. She was an active representative for the National Education Association, Alabama Education Association, and Lee County Education Association.
Mrs. Johnson was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Mu Sigma Omega Chapter, in Opelika, Alabama on September 22, 1991.
She was a Silver Star Soror.
Mrs. Maxie Bell Coley Johnson was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Rufus Neal, Thomas (Tommy Jack) Coley, and sister Tillie Coley.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son James Coley (Stephanie) of Wetumpka, AL; a daughter, Yolunda Coley of Alexander City, AL; two grandchildren, Marnesha Stone of Memphis, TN and Antreal Allen of Alanta, GA; one great granddaughter Heaven Mary Denise Wallace of Memphis, TN; Sister-in-law Ms. Shirley Coley; Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends
