Mrs. Ethel Mae Thompson was born July 22, 1936 to the late Mr. John Lee Bishop and Mrs. Louise Bishop in Clay County Alabama. She met and married Simpson O’Neal Thompson and to this union five children were born. She was a genuine and kindhearted person that loved her job as a Certified Nursing Assistant in which she held for more than 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and making floral arrangements, an avid bird watcher that was intent on making sure her bird feeders were full every day. She enjoyed her word finder books and coin collecting. She was a reader and collector of many magazines and periodicals. Above all she was the sweetest person we have ever known.
She was preceded in death by her sisters: Ruby Adams, Rosie Wood and Dorothy Brown.
Her memories will be cherished by her loving and devoted children: Marsha (Calvin) Murray, Sharon (Coleman) Dennis, Brenda Davis, Joyce (Arthur) Smith, Christopher Thompson, 7 grandchildren: LaQuisha Jones, (Derrick), Calvin B. Murray (Crystal), Whitney Davis, Jeremy Murray (Tynice), Valencia Smith, Arthur Smith, II, and Victoria Dennis, and 6 great grandchildren. 2 sisters: Lena Joiner and Gail Houston (John T). Sisters-in-law: Thelma Thompson, Willie Lee Turner, Sadie McKellar (Fred), Cornelius Buckner (Carl), Mary Graham (Austin). A brother-in-law: Wilbur Thompson. A host of nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her friends and caregivers, Angela Hawkins Simmons and Joseph N. “Mac” Shorter IV.
