Mrs. Elizabeth (Bessie) E. Thomas was born on February 22, 1939 to the late Tennyson James and Mamie Robinson Thomas in Elmore County, Alabama.
At an early age, she joined the Chapel Methodist Church in Eclectic, AL where she served faithfully in many roles to include, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Church Treasurer and where she was needed.
“Bessie” was a graduate of R.R. Moton High School. She was employed in the textile industry for several years and enjoyed being a substitute bus driver for the Eclectic area school systems.
On October 19,1974 she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Chester A. Thomas, Jr. Through this union, she was blessed with three bonus daughters, Pacita, Laytee and Lisa and two bonus sons, Dwight and Bernard.
Bessie later joined Peace and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church where her husband was a member. True to her nature, she was a faithful and active member serving as President of
the Missionary Society, Women’s Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer and often attended Morning Star District meeting and events. She served in many capacities until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tennyson James and Mamie Robinson Thomas husband, Chester A. Thomas, Jr., a sister, Ruth Thomas White, two brother, Charles Thomas and Bernard Getters, a bonus daughter, Pacita Thomas, and a bonus son, Dwight Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: a devoted sister, Mary (M.L.) McElrath of Eclectic, AL; three brothers, Clyde “Gene” (Mattie ) Long Beach California, Lovess (Betty) of Conyers, Georgia, Robert (Miriam) of Stockbridge, Georgia, sister-in-law, Carolyne of Conyers, Georgia, two special nieces, Cathy (David) Peterson of Eclectic/Vincent, Alabama and Carmen (Claude) Douglas of Montgomery, Alabama, a Goddaughter, Juanita Dowdell of Eclectic, Alabama 13 Grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
