Mrs. Betty Jean Buchanan, daughter of the late Elder Rome Thomas and Milley Trimble Thomas was born on April 18, 1934 in Goodwater, Alabama. She graduated in the Class of 1952.
At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Great Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member. She served faithfully as a member of the choir that she loved from her Heart. Singing was her Passion.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Benjamin Buchanan on December 3, 1955. This union was blessed with five children.
Mrs. Betty (Momma), A Beautiful, Loving, Caring wife and mother. She was the last original member of the CMB Gospel Singers. She collaborated with Mrs. Willie Mae Banks in writing two of their published songs: Last Passover and Job Had Faith.. As a result of her generous, gentle, sweet, patient spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian Life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Benjamin Buchanan. Son, Henry Anthony Buchanan and a daughter, Marilyn Marie Taylor.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the life of her children: Benjamin Elijah (Patricia) Buchanan of Alexander City, AL; Raymond Bernard (Marcela) Buchanan of Sylacauga, AL Anita (Rayfield) Foster of Sylacauga, AL; Paula Watts of Alexander City, AL. Daughter-in-law, Monica Buchanan of Conyers, GA and a son in law, Sykethrius Taylor of Alexander City, AL. One god daughter, Venessa Banks, of Cleveland, OH. Grandchildren: Ghirlahada Buchanan Austin, Anthony Raymond Buchanan, Marcus B. Whatley, Krystal Buchanan, Portia R. Buchanan, Victoria Buchanan, Justin M (Shundreta) Buchanan, Malcolm Buchanan, Ervin (Jameelah) Buchanan, Tristan Foster, Raymond Jr., Buchanan, Jordan M. Foster and Jillian Betty Foster.16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
