Mrs. Bessie Lee Spivey, the eldest daughter of the late William (Taft) and Ida Bradley was born on May 21, 1934 in Coosa County. She departed this earthly realm on Monday
August 19, 2024 at her home in Goodwater, AL.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Felix (Fe-Fe) Spivey.
Mrs. Spivey was educated in the schools of Coosa County, one of her favorite subjects was French. She was employed by Russell Mill Corporation for over thirty years. She was also a skilled seamstress for 7 years after her retirement.
At an early age she gave her life to the Lord and was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as president of the Usher Board Ministry for more than twenty years and Counselor for the Matrons.
After her health begin to fail, she relocated to Columbia, SC with her daughter. She became a watch-care member of Zion Millcreek Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop W.B. Sumter, where she gained many friends and adopted children, they referred to her as “Mama”.
Mrs. Spivey was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was well respected and loved by everyone, but most of all she was a child of God.
Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by her parents: William (Taft) and Ida Bradley, husband Felix Spivey, brother Larry Bradley, great grandson Travanti Odem-Spivey, son in law William Ferguson, and several close friends.
Mrs. Spivey leaves to cherish her fond and precious memories to her daughters: Patricia Ferguson of Goodwater, AL & Dorothy “Tiny” (Roy) Swilley of Columbia, SC; Son, Winfred Earl (Cortesa) Spivey of Goodwater, AL; Two sisters: Helen Armour and Curry Adams both of Goodwater, AL; Two brothers: William H. (Millie) Bradley of San Antonio, TX and Gary (Sandra) Bradley of Goodwater, AL; Five grandchildren; Nine great grandchildren; Eleven great-great grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives, and friends; Special friends: Sallie Mae Kelly, Phennie Murray, Carla Sims, Jerlene Street, Mary F. Stroud, Catherine Hill, Isabell Burton, Elizabeth Caldwell, Bessie McCoy Williams, & Juanita McCoy all of whom will miss her dearly.
