Robert “Big Man” McKinney was born to Reverend Robert & Pauline (Cook) McKinney of Cottage Grove, Alabama on May 23, 1951. He confessed Christ at an early age and later joined Bread of Life Apostolic Church of Promise (ACOP) in Kellyton, AL. His great discernment and natural ability to spiritually guide, led him to serve as Deacon. Robert was faithful, which is a wonderful thing. He always made time to talk to whomever. His love for the Word was evident in his love for his family, his church family and those seeking God.
As a favorite hobby, in his early years, Robert was an avid basketball player for J.D. Thompson High School. He also loved the art of painting which is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. It cheers the heart, stimulates the mind, and enriches human life. Ultimately, as with all gifts, art is there to give glory to God. Robert also made beautiful bread boxes, bookcases, and cabinets. In other words, he was a builder. He built his relationship with God daily through prayer, through scripture, and serving others.
Robert united in holy matrimony to Beverly Ann (Tuck) McKinney on May 6, 1983. He departed this life on March 2, 2023. Along with his loving wife, he leaves not to mourn but to cherish his precious memories, three daughters: Shironda McKinney of Goodwater, AL; Shemikia McKinney of Alexander City, AL, & Shytoya (Logan) Palmer of Sylacauga, AL. A very special grandson, Jeremiah Ryan Palmer.
He also leaves five sisters: Lorrine (Charles) Culver of Augusta, GA; Eloise McKinney of Houston, TX; Mary Lee (Randy) Graham of Goodwater, AL; Joanne (Larry) Shealey of Kellyton, AL; Danielle Joy McKinney of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Earnest (Pam) McKinney of Atlanta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
