I, Oliver Moten, Jr. answered the call of my heart today, September 5, 2021.
Mr. Oliver Moten, Jr. was born December 25, 1932 in Alexander City, Alabama to the late Mr. Oliver Moten, Sr. and the late Mrs. Selera Culpepper Moten.
Oliver was preceded in death by a his wife, Mrs. Katherine M. Moten, a daughter, Mrs. Sebrena Moten Fortson, Four sisters: Mrs. Thelma Marbury, Evelyn Rowell, Elsie Harris, and Mary Poole; Three Brothers: William, Harvey, and Robert Moten
Oliver confessed Christ at an early age and joined Haven Memorial United Methodist Church. For more than 30 years, Oliver served on several committees. He was an awesome Sunday School Teacher. He loved his church inside and out. A true outdoorsman with abiding love and respect for everyone. He possessed great wisdom through dry humor though he seldom spoke without thinking first. A gentle giant, quiet and introspective, he was dedicated to his family and friends. Oliver was so proud of his family.
He leaves a legacy of love and excellence by example to his two sons: Oliver Moten, III (Jackie) of Montgomery, Alabama and Alphaeus Moten of Jacksonville, North Carolina. Daughters: Gwendolyn M. Pearson and Janet A. Moten of Alexander City, Alabama. Five grandchildren: Joseph Pearson of Houston, Texas, Patrick Pearson (Tiffany) of Vidalia Georgia; Antony Moten of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Selena and Desmond Moten of Alexander City, Alabama. Five great grandchildren. One brother, Walter Moten of Alexander City, Alabama. Two sisters-in-law: Geraldine Freeman of Alexander City, Alabama and Melvenna Maxwell of Des Moines, Iowa.
