On August 7, 1942, Otis and Annie Spivey Armour were blessed with the birth of Emmitt Joseph Armour in Goodwater, Alabama.
He joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was a member of a gospel group during his youth.
Emmitt graduated from J. D. Thompson High School in Cottage Grove, Alabama. Upon graduation he attended Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee Alabama.
He lived in New York when he met and became lifelong friend with Wilma Rudolph. Her entire family affectionately referred to Emmitt as “Uncle Em”. Following his employment in Peckskill, New York, he came to Indianapolis, IN in 1964 and was employed at Camp Atterbury as a Counselor. In 1974, Emmitt was employed by Allison Transmission where he worked various jobs classification. He was a member of local #933. In 12004 he retired and thoroughly engrossed himself in gardening, music, shopping, photography and travelling. Shipping was his favorite pastime as evidenced by his classy style of dressing enhanced with a captivating smile. Emitt modeled in local troop for the House of Jayne in Indianapolis, IN.
Emmitt joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was a proud member of the Male Choir. He loved attending church every Sunday and looked forward to greeting his Mt. Carmel family.
Emmitt was a brother, uncle, most valued neighbour and friend. Throughout every aspect of his life in each role, he was most attentive to the details.
Emmitt Armour received his wings on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the age of seventy-seven years. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brothers: Otis, Armour, Jr. and Robert J. Armour.
Emmitt leaves to cherish his memories: his brothers: Demetrius Armour and William Armour. Sisters: Christine Armour and Linda Armour-Scott (Carlton). Sisters-in-law: Hattye Armour and Helen Armour. Nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins, special family an god children, daughters, Zenobia Thomas, Annectrice-Dobbs, Peggy Anne Buckner (Wilbert), Heather Bishop (Shawn); grands, Krishna and Harelle Dobbs; Eugene and Nia Morgan; who all affectionately call him “Paw-Paw”. Special friends, Maxine Grubbs, Julia ‘Ms. J’ Beverly, Ida hayes, Ella (Pepper) Clemmons, Teletha Martin, Lillie (Lillian) R. Gary, Donna Brewer, Odessa Heeler, Raymond Beasley, Oliver Flemming and Harold Foster; loving neighbors and a innumerable host of friends.
