Delois Dowdell Obituary

For we walk by faith, not by sight.  We are confident, yes, pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.  Therefore, we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 2 Corinthians 5 7-9 NKJV

Delois “Summer” Dowdell was the third child born to the late Mr. Elmer Dowdell and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lee Dowdell on May 9, 1965, in Alexander City, Alabama.  Delois accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Ebenezer Christian Episcopal Church in Loachapoka, Alabama.

Early in her life, Delois was an avid reader who loved art, music, and traveling. She had fond memories of spending time with family abroad in Europe. Delois also loved her family dearly.

Delois was educated in the Coosa County Public School System prior to graduating from Indian Rivers High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She furthered her education by attending the University of Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. She transferred to Williams College in Williams, Massachusetts and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Delois accepted the Lord’s peace and took the hand of Jesus Christ in her ascension into the heavens to be with her Father and Brother on Sunday afternoon, February 11, 2024.

Delois leaves to cherish her memories, her loving mother, Mary Elizabeth Dowdell (Orlando, Florida); sister, DeLaine Dowdell Priest (Orlando, Florida); four nephews: Malcolm (Natalie) Priest (Sanford, Florida), Kevin (Trisk)Dowdell (Rockford, Alabama), Calvin Dowdell (Loachapoka, Alabama), and Malik Priest (Brisbane, Australia); great nieces Shaneka Dowdell (Auburn, Alabama) and Nicole Dowdell (Auburn, Alabama); great nephews Julian, Shea, Calvin Dowdell Jr., and Callum (Sanford, Florida); two loving aunts and one uncle: Tommie and Anne Cofield, (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) and Elnora Jackson, (Como, Mississippi); loving cousins: Chris, Victoria, Alvin, Taylor, Latrice, Monty, Jeanette, Latashia, Eric, Wendall, Tonia, Rickey, and Bruce.
