Perry Goggans

Perry Goggans was born on June 11th, 1959 in Nixburg, AL. He was the twelfth of 13 children to the late Otis Tom Goggans, Sr. and Mary Emma Shorter Goggans. He was called home on the night of Saturday, May 6th in Russell Medical Center's ICU in Alexander City, AL, where he was surrounded by his children and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, older ­brother LeeForest Goggans and his wife, Clara Jean Spencer Goggans.

As a child, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined New Style Baptist Church in Nixburg, Alabama, where his family served faithfully.

He graduated from Coosa County High School, Class of 1977, in Rockford, AL. He went on to further his education through attending college and vocational school.

From electrical and mechanical work to plumbing and gardening, Perry was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed listening to a large variety of music; took every available opportunity to showcase his moves on the dance floor; and prided himself in being honest, candid and impartial. His strong personality and generous heart left a lasting impression on anyone who graced his presence.

Perry was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Clara Jean, in the summer of 1985. He was a son, father, brother, uncle, and friend to many.­­­

Perry's life will forever be cherished through his four children: TeKoya Goggans (Birmingham, AL), Wynton Goggans (Stone Mountain, GA), Louis Goggans (Memphis, TN), and Laniesha Goggans (Birmingham, AL). His legacy will continue on through his grandchildren: Niara Jean Goggans, MaKayla Marie Brown, and Mia Virginia Jean Jones.

He leaves behind 11 siblings: Mary Rutland Thomas of Indianapolis, IN; Otis (Louise) Goggans, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; Charles (Ruth) Goggans of Columbus, OH; Helen (Ted) Johnson of Compton, CA; Lamar (Yvonne) Goggans of Indianapolis, IN; Paul Goggans of Indianapolis, IN; David (Beatrice) Goggans of Atlanta, GA; Larry (Shandra) Goggans of Pensacola, FL; Carolyn (Kittren) Walker of Birmingham, AL; Sheryl (Anthony) Borden of Cottage Grove, AL; and Kenneth (Eugena) Goggans of Madison, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
