Carlos Landraus Slaughter
It is not often that we meet individuals whose lives leave a lasting
impression upon others, but so was the life of Carlos L. Slaughter. A
Christian man—warm, gentle, sincere, and caring—he touched many lives.
Carlos Landraus Slaughter, affectionately known as Carl, passed suddenly
from labor to reward to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, December
6, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in Alexander City, Alabama,
August 1, 1974. He was the son of Mrs. Marion Slaughter and Mr. Robert
L. Slaughter, who accepted him as his son and became a strong influence
in Carl’s life. His grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Earnestine)
Hawse and Ms. Annie Mae Baggett, taught him to always remain calm
and to think things through before acting.
Under his parents’ loving guidance, Carl was instilled with Christian
values. He joined Friendship Baptist Church at an early age, where he
participated in the Sunday School and other church activities.
Carl attended the public schools of Alexander City, and graduated from
Benjamin Russell High School in 1992. He received an Associate Degree
from Central Alabama Community College, and earned a Bachelor’s
Degree in Arts and Communication from Auburn University at
Montgomery. Carl worked at Russell Corporation in Alexander City and
The Distribution Center in Montgomery, Alabama. After graduating from
college, he worked at WSFA-TV in Montgomery and WBRC (ABC 33/40)
Television Station in Birmingham, Alabama.
Carl joined the ESPN Network in Bristol, Connecticut in 2011, and
transferred to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2014 where he resided at the
time of his death. He was employed in his “dream job” at the SEC Sports
Network in Charlotte, which he had been instrumental in launching.
Carl’s legacy and memory will live on through his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert L. (Marion) Slaughter of Alexander City; his beloved son, Mr.
Joshua R. Slaughter of Alexander City; a sister, Mrs. Amellia (Antonio)
Glenn, a nephew, Deshaun Glenn, and a niece, Madison Glenn, all of
Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his birth father, Mr. Arwilson “Ed” Jones of
Alexander City; and many other relatives, loved ones, and friends.
Oh Lord, I will not question any decision that You make. Thank You for
our son that You loaned to us for 45 years. We loved him and held him
close in our hearts, through the good and the bad. He always put YOU
first in all his decisions. Lord, You gave Carlos his wings to fly away and
be at rest with You. It is time for us to say, “Goodbye,” but it is so hard to
do. Lord, we are asking You to heal our broken hearts. We praise You,
God, and we thank You for Carlos and for all of the precious moments
and memories we will cherish forever.
