Gloria Jean Myers McDonald was born on December 9, 1936, was the second of five children born to Jacob and Elmira Hester Myers. She departed this life on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Russell Medical Center, Alexander City, Alabama.
Gloria McDonald was preceded in death by her parents: Jacob Benjamin Myers and Elmira Hester Myers, two brothers:James Augustus Myers and Winston Leon Myers.
Gloria attended St. Jude Elementary and High School and graduating from there in 1954. Afterwards, she attended Alabama State University received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Gloria began her career as a teacher in Shelby County Alabama at Alabaster Elementary School. After ten years, she moved out of state and taught in the school system of Baton Rouge, LA and Houston, TX.
She returned home to Montgomery in 1968 because of the health of her mother. She completed her professional career with tenure at Resurrection School and St. Jude Elementary. After retirement she enjoyed volunteer work at the St. Jude Social Services and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Peter Claver.
She leaves behind her loving family, niece (daughter), Franjernera Brown (Edward), Temple Hills, MD. Sisters: Hattye M. Armour, Alexander City, AL and Maxine M. Cannon (Marvin), Solon, OH. Nieces: Eulanda Thompson, Mableton, GA; Marjory Cannon, (John). Columbia, MD; Monica Cannon, Solon, OH; and Sharitta Anderson (Kofee), Montgomery, AL. Nephews: Darrell T. Armour, Alexander City, AL. Winston L. Myers, Atlanta, GA; Byron B. Myers (Regina) San Jose, CA; and James L. Myers, Montgomery, AL. Special cousins: Rozelia Harris, Mary S. Averhart and Debbie Wagstaff (William), Montgomery, AL. 2 grandchildren: Zori & Benjamin Brown. Linda and Carlton Scott who were always there lending support and encouragement. Many other relatives and friends.
