Mrs. Carrie Lawrence was born July 8, 1937 in Coosa County, Alabama. She departed this life on April 11, 2024 at Coosa Valley Medical Center located in Sylacauga, Alabama.
Mrs. Lawrence was a graduate of Coosa County Training School in Cottage Grove, Alabama. She moved to Rochester, New York and New York City, New York where she worked in various employments. She returned home attending Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama pursuing a degree in Education. While at Alabama State University, she pledged to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. She worked at J. D. Thompson High School as a Secretary and Substitute Teacher. Mrs. Lawrence worked many years for the Coosa County Extension Service in Rockford, Alabama. She was employed with the City of Montgomery, Alabama and later was employed with the State of Alabama in the Department of Revenue and the Treasurer’s Office.
Mrs. Lawrence joined the First Baptist Church at an early age. She served faithfully with the Usher Board and Missionary Society Finance Committee. She participated with the Morning Star District Center, in various activities and committees, and also served as Secretary of the J. D. Thompson Alumni for many years.
Mrs. Lawrence is preceded in death by her parents: Sgt. Jesse Brown and Mrs. Elizabeth Kelley Brown; Two daughters: Donna Leonard and Kimberly Lawrence. A wonderful sister, Margaret Howard and brother in law, Thomas Howard.
She is survived by one daughter, Ms. Carmen Leonard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; Two special friends, Deacon Paul and Sis Ava Burton.
