James E. Towns

~Obituary~

James Edward (Sonny) Towns born July 19, 1932 to the late Roosevelt and Annie Ruth Towns of New Site, AL.  Sonny graduated from Laurel High School, met and married Celeste Boleware.  Of this union, they had nine children.  He served three years in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

Sonny retired from King’s Furniture and Avondale Mills after 30 years of service.  After retiring, he accepted Christ and united with the Cedar Street Church of God.  He was an active member of the Transportation Ministry.

Sonny was called to Glory on March 16, 2017, at the Bill Nichols State Veteran’s Home.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Charles and Simon and one daughter, Amanda Sue.

Sonny leaves to cherish his memories, a wife of more than 63 years, Celeste Towns. Eight children: Deborah of Peoria, IL, James C. (Pam) of Lithonia, GA, Pamela (Samuel) of Newnan, GA, Broderick (Theresa) of Alexander City, AL, Eric (Virginia) of Alexander City, AL, Jennifer of Notasulga, AL, Lawanda (Felton) of Chattanooga, TN and Roosevelt (Ivy) of Fairburn, GA.  Four sisters: Mrs. Pauline Burns, Mrs. Temple Shannon, Mrs. Marcella Hampton and Ms. Charlene Towns.  Ten grandchildren: Jelani, Brodericka, LaRon, Celeste, Jazzlyn, Amanda, Rukeim, Maya, Zoe and India.  Seven great grandchildren.  One special cousin, Charles Moon,  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
