Homegoing Celebration

For

Mrs. Carrie Mae (Walker) Berry

(“Dear”)

Mrs. Carrie M. Walker Berry was the second of six children born on June 19, 1935 to the late Mr. E. C. and Alice Marbury Walker of Alexander City.   She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and united with the Darian Missionary Baptist Church.  She was a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church for a number of years and later joined GAP Fellowship Church where she faithfully served in the capacity as the Church’s Mother until her death.    She was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Joe Ennis Berry for almost 60 years.   To this blessed union was born one child:  Marilyn Berry Benson (Lewis) of Alexander City.

She relocated to her final resting place on Wednesday, March 29th at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.   She was preceded in death by one sister, Ida Mae Walker Harris.

Affectionately known as “Dear,” she worked for a period of time as a seamstress with Russell Mills.   Dear enjoyed sewing, gardening, styling hair, cooking, and taking care of everyone else.   She was the perfect homemaker who entertained hundreds of people who ate from her table.   The soul of this virtuous woman was mirrored in her love and care for her husband, family, and friends.   She had a special way of making everyone feel at home.  She was a Daughter, Sister, Christian, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Aunt, Friend and an Extraordinary Woman of Wisdom.   Some people touch our lives like never ending streams, others touch our hearts with love that never ends.  This was the soul of Carrie Mae Berry.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Ennis, daughter,  Marilyn (Lewis), Alexander City, Al.,  two sisters, Ella Pearl Walker and Mary Bradley; Alexander City, Al., two brothers; Edward Walker (Gladys); Birmingham, Al., Curtis Walker (Irene); Alexander City, Al., two grandchildren; April Michelle Benson, Birmingham, Al., Walker Lewis Berry Benson (Stephanie); Alexander City, Al., two great-grandchildren, Mckenzie Ann Benson, and Daylen Meadows; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, extended family, and friends.
